The Application Process
The Film School offers a flexible and open application process. We welcome applications at any time but suggest that you apply in September for our February intake, in March for July.
Application process overview
*For process of deposit payment and application for student loans, see Fees information.
How to apply
To apply you need to complete an
application form online. If you have any questions about the application form or the process get in touch with us
here. Once we have received
your application we will advise you whether or not you have been
selected for an interview.
The Interview
Once you have applied you may be offered an interview. This can be in person, by telephone or by Skype. The interview will usually be with the Director of the School. It is not a test! It is a chance for the School to find out more about you and for you to ask questions about the School. If you are offered a place, we want to be sure you understand all about us.
Offer
If we offer you a place you will be notified by phone, email or letter. You will be asked for a deposit to secure your place.
Fees
Once you have paid your deposit you will be sent an invoice for your full fees. These are due by the first day of the course. If you are paying by Student Loan, Studylink will advise the School when your loan is approved.
New Zealand Students
New Zealand resident students are eligible to apply for student loans and allowances, provided they meet Studylink criteria. New Zealand resident students may borrow the full amount of the fees.
Helpful Hints for Applicants
Applicants to The Film School do not require any previous experience in the film or television industry. All applicants are treated on their merits and successful candidates for the course will be chosen after individual interviews. We suggest you send us an inquiry BEFORE applying, in order that you are fully informed about the course.
The only formal eligibility requirement is that you must be at least eighteen years of age, although a driving licence is highly desirable. However, there are certain skills and abilities which would give you an advantage if you were contemplating a career in the film and television industry. - Relevant trade training or employment (e.g. electrical, mechanical)

- A proven work ethic
- Marketing/business/commerce background
- Drivers licence (heavy trade vehicle licence would be a bonus)

This is not an exhaustive list, but rather some guidelines for the type of person who could be a successful applicant.
